POSITION INFORMATION

Role Summary The Enterprise System Engineer II takes a holistic view of all the Alaska Air Group's enterprise systems. In this role you will gather input, provide guidance, and make decisions to ensure Alaska's infrastructure fits within our vision. You will partner closely with different groups within IT as well as business customers in order to clearly understand their requirements, implement technology solutions, and own the resulting system.

The Enterprise System Engineer II must demonstrate strong skills in Hardware/Software Architecture & Best Practices, Computer Security & Compliance, and Enterprise Architectures. You will oversee the operations of multiple, critical infrastructure technologies and you will be responsible for maintaining the daily operation and overall stability of Alaska's enterprise infrastructure systems.

Scope & Complexity

  • This engineering position supports enterprise systems activities for Alaska Air Group (AAG) and its subsidiaries.

Key Duties

  • Acts as Operations liaison to Application Development teams in order to understand needs, schedules, and to identify activities.

  • Functions as a member of small and medium sized IT projects, representing multiple infrastructure platforms.

  • Partners directly with Enterprise Architecture and other Infrastructure teams, helping to maintain the operational stability of our critical systems.

  • Participates in the execution of established infrastructure roadmaps.

  • Possesses and displays expert skills in the following areas: technical troubleshooting, customer service, and communication.

  • Participates in vendor meetings.

  • Owns at least one core infrastructure technology: Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment solutions (Jenkins, Chef), Scripting (Powershell, Python, bash, Ruby), Middleware tools (Layer 7, Tibco, MQSeries), Job Scheduling, or Monitoring.

  • Pursues industry leading certifications and training.

  • Holds team members accountable for enterprise best practices.

  • Demonstrates an increasing ability to apply the general skill set.

  • Participates in the team's on-call rotation schedule.

Job-Specific Skills (years of experience, key knowledge, skills & abilities)

  • A minimum of 4+ years of documented IT experience is required.

  • A minimum of 2+ years of technical engineering experience is required.

  • Superior knowledge in Windows System Administration is required.

  • In-depth knowledge of cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure) including IaaS and PaaS is preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience supporting enterprise solutions is preferred.

  • Prior participation in small and medium projects involving enterprise hardware and/or software technologies is preferred.

  • Experience working in enterprise IT environments and knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) concepts (Change-, Incident-, Problem-, Release-, Major Incident Management); ITIL Foundations Certification or better is preferred.

  • Knowledge of networking concepts (networking/switching/routing) is preferred.

  • Professional certification in an applicable technology or project management discipline is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills are preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are preferred.

Education

  • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, information technology or a related study, or equivalent work experience is required.
