Role Summary The AOCS Senior Safety Data Analyst plays a central role in Alaska Air Group's (AAG) safety management system (SMS) by providing independent and objective analysis on the safety health of Airport Operations and Customer Service (AOCS), and its business partners by using a risk-based, value-added approach. This role performs continuous analysis of AOCS' SMS data to identify trends, safety concerns, and effectiveness of safety risk controls. This role also supports the AOCS safety and compliance team through safety risk assessments, data analysis, investigations, and safety metric performance analysis.

Scope & Complexity

  • This position supports complex safety data analyst activities for the AOCS division.

Key Duties

  • Plays a central role in the safety management system (SMS) by providing independent and objective analysis on the safety health of AOCS, including our business partners by using a risk-based, value-added approach.

  • Performs continuous analysis of AOCS' SMS data to identify trends, safety concerns, and effectiveness of safety risk controls.

  • Applies data mining, advanced statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and forecasting skills to analyze current and historical pre-cursors to forecast future events.

  • Supports the business unit through safety risk assessments, data analysis, investigations, and safety metric performance analysis.

  • Captures and analyzes information from multiple sources and databases to prepare integrated safety performance reports which are issued to all management levels.

  • Promotes SMS throughout the organization by facilitating the development of tools and techniques that strengthen safety risk management.

  • Monitors and analyzes alliance partner safety data, including CPA and code-share airlines operating on behalf of AAG.

  • Emulates the AOCS Compliance team's key competencies: safety advocacy, professional curiosity, analytical approach, personal accountability for results, credibility with peers, subordinates & leaders, and thoughtful & effective communication skills.

  • Completes ad hoc operational analytical needs as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job-Specific Skills Required

  • A minimum of 3 years of related analyst experience.

  • Proficiency with Tableau required.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Able to balance competing demands while producing quality results in a fast paced environment.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.


  • Aviation, aviation safety, or airline operations experience.

  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Access, Brio, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or SQL editors.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Hyperion, or forecast modeling tools.

  • Statistical analysis experience and skills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in information systems, business administration, aviation safety, or related discipline, is preferred.

  • Professional certification in a business intelligence discipline is preferred

  • Professional certification in Lean Six Sigma is preferred.
