YOUR ROLE

Role Summary

The Crew Planning Analyst II is responsible for the planning of long, medium, and short-term crew staffing and allocation plans while ensuring that crewmember schedules are available for bidding in accordance with their respective working agreements and are compliant with all company, FAA, & contract policies & regulations. This position will assist in forecasting crew productivity, reserve demand, and overall staffing requirements to ensure that the airline is appropriately staffed and the operation is supported. Additionally, this position is responsible for analyzing the operational reliability of crewmember schedules in order to reduce staffing demand, and increase reliability for the operation.

Scope & Complexity

This person is responsible for ensuring optimal monthly planning, and assisting in the long-term staffing for crews for both the Boeing and Airbus fleets at Alaska Airlines.

Key Duties

  • Build the company flight schedule into fly-able crew schedules (pairings) using advanced optimization software for crewmembers that meet contractual and regulatory requirements

  • Optimize crew pairings in such a way to balance safety, costs, productivity, operational reliability, and crew quality of life considerations

  • Award schedules to the crewmembers while ensuring seniority is honored

  • Conduct analysis to better understand cost & productivity opportunities such as crew base or schedule adjustments

  • Responsible for analyzing the operational reliability of crewmember schedules in order to reduce staffing demand, and increase reliability for the operation

  • Drive improvement by projecting supply and demand to apply to long-term staffing model, conduct lookback analysis in partnership with Crew ORA to use for sustainability and to better optimize pairings

  • Use data to easily tell the "story" of what happened, and how we use that information to improve

  • Partner with Finance on the budget build process and quantifying quality of life for crewmembers

  • Leverage technology and data to enhance pairing performance, productivity, and sustainability

  • Develop and implement systems and technology to produce decision support tools that enable leaders and stakeholders to take strategic action in pairing selection, staffing, forecasting, and budgeting

  • Researches new data sources and analytical tools to enhance the data-driven business process

  • Select best methodologies to approach business problems and contributes to the continuous improvement of the team and stakeholder processes and data life-cycle

  • Troubleshoot pairing production issues while partnering with the team to triage, identify root cause, and work with the team on short and long term solutions

  • Clearly communicate with and respond to crewmembers, unions, and divisional leadership in a clear professional manner

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • A minimum of 1 year airline experience with strong preference of crew planning or crew scheduling experience

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in data analytics

  • Strong Excel experience (pivot tables, graphs, functions)

  • Knowledge of data mining, trending, analytics

  • Experience with relational databases and data modeling

  • Experience with basic statistics (mean, median, mode, distribution, etc.)

  • Demonstrated aptitude towards problem identification, resolution and comprehension and

interpretation of technical procedures

  • Excellent communication, and presentation skills

  • Data driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self-development

Preferred

  • Bachelor Degree with a focus in a quantitative field (business administration, economics, mathematics, MIS, statistics, computer science, etc.)

  • Knowledge of pilot and flight attendant contractual provisions for scheduling, bidding, training and pay

  • Understanding of FAA regulations in regards to crewmember scheduling

  • Experience with SQL

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with analytics and/or business intelligence tools (Brio, Tableau, SSRS, etc.)

  • Knowledge of productivity drivers and analysis
