POSITION INFORMATION

Role Summary

Alaska Airlines is seeking a product leader to be responsible for Airport Operations, Baggage, Reservations and Cargo tools and technology. The successful candidate will partner closely with their business stakeholders in the various operating divisions and lead a team of product managers and a manager of user experience to shape the product vision, road map and functionality for all aspects of technology used by the front-line team.

Scope & Complexity This leadership role directs product management for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. Focused on the technology needs of the front-line team which includes Airport Customer Service, Baggage Services, Reservations and Cargo Agents. This role leads a team of Product Managers, Product Owners, and User Experience Designers.

Builds High Performing Teams

Defines the Product Road Map

  • Drives the vision and product road maps for all tools and technology used at Airports - Gates, Lobby, Baggage, Ramp, Displays, Resource Management, Reservations and Cargo.

  • Crafts the product strategy for your areas based on data, including transnational data, usage statistics, primary customer research, and overall business direction.

  • Stays current with airline relevant technology and industry trends.

  • Ensures you and your team stay appropriately in touch with competitors' capabilities.

  • Sell your vision and road map to key stakeholders to the operations teams, including senior executives.

Guides the Product Through Delivery

  • Leads the execution of the roadmaps in partnership with world-class technology and user experience design teams.

  • Creates key product metrics and goals and delivers against them, identifying a plan to deliver those objectives with feature improvement ideas.

  • Ensures your team delivers the right quantity and quality of product inputs (e.g. stories, timely tradeoff decisions) into the technology team for delivery.

  • Provides decision support to your product management team and helps them navigate communication with senior colleagues when necessary.

  • Personally makes key tradeoff decisions when required, smartly using data when it exists and solid judgement when it doesn't.

  • Engages in constructive debate with - and delivers tough messages when needed to key stakeholders (including senior executives) while maintaining professional and productive relationships.

  • Selects and manages key vendors as needed.

Improves the Product Management Function

  • Significantly shapes the product discovery and definition process.

  • Incorporates lean concepts as appropriate in our product management thinking and processes to increase team agility.

  • Leads the way in incorporating more/better data into our product discovery and definition processes.

Job-Specific Skills, Experience & Education

Required

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive e-commerce and/or mobile product development experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years of management experience leading and mentoring e-commerce product management teams.

  • A Bachelor Science or Arts degree in business, computer science or related field.

  • Demonstrated history of defining a product management process.

  • Fluent in agile product development concepts from the product management point of view.

  • Ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly and drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong, talented, opinionated team.

  • Expert in using customer research, web analytics, financial and other data to prioritize plans.

  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and passionate about change.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • MBA or equivalent work experience.

  • Significant experience leading product management in an airline or travel company.

  • Knowledge of the airline and/or travel industries and related technologies.

  • Deep working knowledge of lean concepts.

  • Experience negotiating and/or managing vendors.
