Role Summary

The Engineer - Maintenance Programs provides world-class customer service while keeping safety and compliance the top priorities. This engineer supports scheduled maintenance program tasks and inspection limit criteria adhere to the highest levels of safety, compliance, and operational performance, while meeting production schedules and cost efficiencies. Depending on their experience they may be hired in to the level that is most applicable to their experience.

Scope & Complexity

This position supports aircraft maintenance and aerospace engineering for Alaska Airlines (AS).

Key Duties

  • Ensures all scheduled maintenance program instructions, work documents, and control procedures are developed and administered in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and Alaska Airlines (AS) policies.

  • Focuses on scheduled maintenance program tasks and inspection limit criteria adhere to the highest levels of safety, compliance, and operational performance, while meeting production schedules and cost efficiencies.

In the entry level

  • Coordinates with Fleet Engineering and Reliability to develop and implement efficiencies and robust simplifications into the maintenance program.

  • Works with the maintenance programs team, continuous improvement team (CIT), and others in the M&E Division to maintain a culture of continuous improvement and to develop and implement smart efficiencies and robust simplifications into daily processes.

Includes Safety Management System (SMS) in daily work habits and remain current in the training requirements for SMS.

  • Represents AS and participate at industry steering committee (ISC) meetings and associated MSG-3 working groups to continually drive the optimization of scheduled maintenance program tasks for the highest levels of safety/compliance and operational performance.

In the intermediate level:

  • Ensures all scheduled maintenance program instructions, work documents, and control procedures are developed and administered in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and Alaska Airlines (AS) policies.

  • Develops aircraft maintenance work document instructions that are simple, clear, and meet the intent of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and STC procedures and inspections and collaborates with aircraft technicians to enhance effectiveness.

  • Analyzes engineering data and recommends effective and efficient scheduled maintenance programs in accordance with Alaska's Program Requirements Manual and General Procedures Manual.

In the Senior Level:

  • Develops aircraft maintenance work document instructions that are simple, clear, and meet the intent of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and STC procedures and inspections and collaborates with aircraft technicians to enhance effectiveness.

  • Analyzes engineering data and recommends effective and efficient scheduled maintenance programs in accordance with Alaska's Program Requirements Manual and General Procedures Manual.

  • Coordinates with Fleet Engineering and Reliability to develop and implement efficiencies and robust simplifications into the maintenance program.

  • Collaborates with the maintenance programs team, continuous improvement team (CIT), and others in the M&E Division to maintain a culture of continuous improvement and to develop and implement smart efficiencies and robust simplifications into daily processes.

Job-Specific Skills, Experience & Education

Entry Level

  • Bachelor of Science with a focus in aerospace or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline degree, or 2 years aircraft maintenance program experience.

  • Knowledge of maintenance program theory and standard practices, including; applicable FAA regulations and guidance, MSG-3 logic, MRBR, MPD, and STC processes.

  • Knowledge of aircraft ATA (Air Transport Association) systems and equipment (Airbus A320 & Boeing 737) preferred

Intermediate Level

  • 2 years of aircraft maintenance program experience.

  • Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in aerospace or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance program theory and standard practices, including; applicable FAA regulations and guidance, MSG-3 logic, MRBR, MPD, and STC processes.

  • Extensive Knowledge of aircraft ATA (Air Transport Association) systems and equipment (Airbus A320 & Boeing 737).

Senior Level

  • 5 years of aircraft maintenance program experience.

  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in aerospace or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Expert knowledge of maintenance program theory and standard practices, including; applicable FAA regulations and guidance, MSG-3 logic, MRBR, MPD, and STC processes.

  • Expert of aircraft ATA (Air Transport Association) systems and equipment (Airbus A320 & Boeing 737).

Preferred

  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement training and certification.

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification.

  • Project management training and certification.

  • Database querying tool experience.

  • TRAX and Boeing Toolbox background

  • Computer programming experience.
