Alaska Airlines Managing Director of Financial Planning and Analysis in Seattle, Washington

Role Summary

The Managing Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) supports long-term strategy development and oversees financial planning, analysis, and forecasting at Alaska Airlines. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders in capital and financial budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis with an emphasis on progressive movement toward optimal productivity and cost. The Managing Director of FP&A will report to the Executive Vice President of Planning and Strategy and will be a valued consultant to the executive team.

Scope & Complexity

This executive role provides thought leadership and strategic counsel to executives through expert-level knowledge of FP&A affairs for Alaska Airlines.

Key Duties

  • Set long-term strategy for capital and financial budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis with an emphasis in progressive movement toward optimal productivity and cost structure.

  • Establish strategic goals and direction for division controllers and their teams.

  • Influence across company and provide strategic recommendations to enterprise leaders regarding the progress and effectiveness of strategic plans and investments.

  • Influence company culture through action, presence, and reinforcement of behavior and lead by example in analytical excellence, financial discipline and driving the business to greater efficiency.

  • Brief the Executive Committee and Board of Directors on budgets, forecasts, and the results of financial analysis.

  • Ensure financial planning cycles and reports are coordinated with Alaska Air Group subsidiaries to produce consolidated budgets and forecasts.

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain financial modeling tools used for key decisions within the company.

  • Leverage in-depth understanding of financial systems, sources, and methodologies to ensure accuracy of model outputs and reporting.

  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and functions.

  • Partner with project management, supply chain management, and other resource groups to identify and drive process improvement, cost savings, and other material benefits.

  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses (e.g., cash flow, pro-forma, return on invested capital, etc.) to drive strategic decisions.

Job-Specific Skills, Experience and Education

  • Required

  • A minimum of 10 years of financial analysis, financial reporting or related experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience, with demonstrated success managing high-performing teams.

  • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance or a related field.

  • Ability to engage and establish credibility with business partners at the most senior/executive level.

  • High energy, positive, and executive-level presence, along with top-notch written and verbal communication, public speaking, influencing, and motivational skills.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Preferred

  • Airline industry experience.

  • A Master's Degree, Master of Business Administration or a related field.

  • CPA
