Role Summary

The Quality Assurance (QA) Auditor –is responsible for conducting risk-based station audits for Alaska Airlines (AS) and Horizon Air (QX) and supporting the Safety Management System (SMS) by collecting safety assurance data for analysis and review. As an individual contributor, the QA Auditor role requires a process-driven and strong safety mindset. This individual has experience contributing to cohesive, results-oriented teams, to deliver high-quality results within time budgets.

Key Duties

  • Independently conduct station audit and risk-based process audit activity (consisting of observations, document reviews, interviews, etc.) to facilitate improvement in processes that support station operations.

  • Collaborate with local, regional, and divisional station leadership to collect safety and compliance data.

  • Analyze data collected from internal/external audits and employee reporting to identify systemic trend and process level breakdowns.

  • Conduct root cause analysis to identify process level breakdowns.

  • Analyze and review Safety Assurance data in order to continually develop the Safety Management System (SMS).

  • Identify and recommend corrective actions plans based on audit findings in partnership with station/divisional leadership.

  • Conduct follow-up checks on corrective actions and monitor effectiveness of corrective action plans.

  • Represent the department at divisional SMS Meetings.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills


  • 2 years of airline industry experience or equivalent operational industry experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training and/or experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Thorough understanding of airline safety and operating standards, as well as a thorough understanding of customer service, ground handling, cargo, and security operations.

  • Ability to understand complex business processes and identify key controls (to mitigate operational/safety risks).

  • Superior problem solving, planning, organizational, and analytical skills as well as the ability to effectively communicate with diverse workgroups/departments in a positive manner.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Frequent travel (minimum 70%) is required, including international travel.

  • A valid passport at the time of employment.


  • Experience in audit, quality assurance or related area.

  • Knowledge of aircraft fueling operations.
