POSITION INFORMATION

Role Summary Alaska Airlines is seeking a senior product owner to drive delivery of key functionality for our $3 billion, multi-channel e-commerce business including AlaskaAir.com, our mobile apps, and other customer-facing experiences. The successful candidate will partner with product managers to translate product strategy into a detailed, prioritized backlog of user stories. Serving as the Product Owner role in the Scrum process, she/he will collaborate with an agile delivery team to implement, measure, and learn from the improvements they have made.

Scope & Complexity This individual contributor position manages execution of the e-commerce product feature and delivery roadmap for Alaska Airlines. Develop and implement up to a 6 month roadmap aligned to KPI's that integrates both internal and external stakeholder requirements. This role has a significant impact on driving and creating hassle-free customer-facing experiences.

Key Duties Drive Product Delivery

  • Supports product strategy by forming a backlog of features and user stories for use by a Scrum delivery team.

  • Articulates requirements for each user story with detailed acceptance criteria.

  • Owns prioritization of the product backlog, constantly optimizing for business value, guest satisfaction, required investment, and delivery risk.

  • Effectively uses data and insights from multiple sources that benefits the business and our guests

  • Relentlessly pursues incremental delivery by looking for ways to meet business goals and learn from guests through frequent, measurable enhancements.

  • Works collaboratively and uses best practices with the delivery team to support backlog refinement, sprint planning, and long term release planning.

  • Monitors and improves product health.

  • Ensures completed stories meet acceptance criteria by reviewing test plans, the output of automated testing or, where necessary, contributing to manual testing efforts.

  • Prioritize and collaborate in resolution of customer issues and defects.

  • Provides support during system outages or emergency situations including occasional 24x7 on-call duties.

  • Seek and improve processes across the entire product team.

  • Effectively communicates with team members, stakeholders, and all levels of management.

  • Leads the demonstration of new features to stakeholders.

  • Provides direction, mentorship, and coaching to junior Product Owners.

  • Provides vendor management oversight as needed.

  • Stays abreast of e-commerce and aviation industry trends and presents compelling competitive analysis for feature development.

  • Stays current and applies product development and agile delivery practices.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills Required

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a business analyst, product owner, or other relevant experience.

  • A minimum of 2 years of product owner experience working in partnership with a delivery team using Scrum.

  • Experience influencing cross-functional teams successfully.

  • Experience using digital analysis tools such as Omniture.

  • Strong knowledge of current technology architectures and vendor systems that support the product.

  • Strong knowledge of analytic systems and can retrieve data insights through SQL and back end systems.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in computer science or a related discipline.

  • 4 years working directly with web and mobile e-commerce businesses exceeding $1MM in revenue per year.

  • Significant experience working on large CONSUMER e-commerce businesses.

  • Knowledge of the airline and/or travel industries and related technologies.

  • Deep working knowledge of lean concepts.
