The Director, Line Maintenance sets the long-term strategy and oversees the financial performance of Line Maintenance operations at Alaska Airlines (AS). As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders to safely manage the maintenance operations of Alaska Airlines in compliance with all company, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and governmental safety rules and regulations, including the airworthiness of all aircraft released from maintenance.
Responsible for the safe maintenance operations of Alaska Airlines (ASA), and their compliance with all company, FAA and governmental safety rules and regulations, including the airworthiness of all ASA aircraft released from maintenance.
Establishes strategic goals and direction for team of line maintenance leaders who oversee the daily operational effort of the department system-wide within the policies and procedures established by corporate policy and by the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) division.
Manages and adjusts staffing levels across outstations per schedule-driven changes for effective execution of a world-class maintenance program.
Establishes long-range plans for capital spends across all line maintenance outstations.
Directs all scheduled inspections and ensures maintenance of routine/non-routine requirements are satisfied in accordance with AS policies and procedures.
Guides and administers the collective bargaining unit (CBU) with line maintenance outstations.
Serves as member of the Continuing Analysis and Surveillance Review Board (CASRB), the Reliability Analysis Program Control Board, and an Advisory Member of the Continuing Analysis and Surveillance Working Group (CASWG).
Ensures all personnel assigned to perform maintenance on AS aircraft, engines and components, including employees of contracted agencies, are properly trained and qualified.
Ensure that safety rules and regulations are enforced and develop a safety awareness in all personnel directed.
Provides guidance and direction for immediate corrective actions and long-term solutions to audit findings for the line maintenance outstations.
Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and functions.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
8 years of experience in line maintenance, maintenance operations, or relevant experience.
5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people.
4 years of budgeting, aircraft reliability, and/or production experience.
Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Airframe and Powerplant license.
Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and safety regulations.
Ability and willingness to travel frequently (up to 40%).
Strong communication (e.g., verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and with key external business partners.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Technical knowledge of maintaining Boeing 737 and Airbus A320
Knowledge of the AMFA collective bargaining agreement, along with labor relations skills.
Working knowledge of operational analysis tools.
Full understanding of AS maintenance program requirements.
