Role Summary Alaska Airlines is seeking a product leader to be responsible for a significant part of our $3 billion, multi-channel e-commerce business. The successful candidate will partner closely with their counterparts from around the company and lead a team of product managers to shape the e-commerce product vision, road map and functionality for key aspects of, our mobile apps and customer-facing e-commerce experiences.

Scope & Complexity

  • This leadership role directs e-commerce product management for Alaska Air Group (AAG) and its subsidiaries. Focused on market and customer needs, this role leads a team of Product Managers, Product Owners, and a Delivery Manager. This role is accountable for managing an e-commerce storefront of $3Billion+.

Key Duties Builds High Performing Teams

  • Attracts and retains a talented and results-focused team while using sound strategies for improving poor performance.

  • Coaches members of the team and mentors them to become great product leaders.

  • Succeeds as a manager of managers with a demonstrated ability to lead through others.

Defines the Product Road Map

  • Drives the vision and product road maps for key sections of Alaska's e-commerce offerings.

  • Crafts the product strategy for your areas based on data, including transactional data, usage statistics, primary customer research, and industry analyst reports.

  • Stays current with online travel, e-commerce and relevant technology and industry trends.

  • Ensures you and your team stay appropriately in touch with competitors' capabilities.

  • Sell your vision and road map to key stakeholders throughout the company, including senior executives.

Guides the Product Through Delivery

  • Leads the execution of the roadmaps in partnership with world-class technology and user experience design teams.

  • Creates key product metrics and goals and delivers against them, identifying a plan to deliver those objectives with feature improvement ideas.

  • Ensures your team delivers the right quantity and quality of product inputs (e.g. stories, timely tradeoff decisions) into the technology team for delivery.

  • Provides decision support to your product management team and helps them navigate communication with senior colleagues when necessary.

  • Personally makes key tradeoff decisions when required, smartly using data when it exists and solid judgment when it doesn't.

  • Engages in constructive debate with - and delivers tough messages when needed to key stakeholders (including senior executives) while maintaining professional and productive relationships.

  • Selects and manages key vendors as needed. Improves the Product Management Function

  • Significantly shapes the product discovery and definition process.

  • Incorporates lean concepts as appropriate in our product management thinking and processes to increase team agility.

  • Leads the way in incorporating more/better data into our product discovery and definition processes.

Job-Specific Skills & Education

  • Required

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive e-commerce and/or mobile product development experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years of management experience leading and mentoring e-commerce product management teams.

  • A minimum of 5 years working directly with web and mobile e-commerce businesses exceeding $10MM in revenue per year.

  • A Bachelor's Art or a Bachelor Science degree in business, computer science or related field is required.

  • Demonstrated history of defining a product management process.

  • Fluent in agile product development concepts from the product management point of view.

  • Ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly and drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong, talented, opinionated team.

  • Expert in using customer research, web analytics, financial and other data to prioritize plans.

  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and passionate about change.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Preferred

  • MBA or equivalent work experience is preferred.

  • Significant experience working on large CONSUMER e-commerce businesses.

  • Knowledge of the airline and/or travel industries and related technologies.

  • Deep working knowledge of lean concepts.

  • Experience negotiating and/or managing vendors where spend exceeds $100K/year.
